Once a Boy - Veronica Barboza

poetry ☆

I think I was a woman in every life —

except for when I was a boy.

Only a boy — about nine or ten

never living long enough to see the horrors of men.

Though — I wish I could be a sailor

or a cowboy or a knight

or a businessman with a briefcase

who comes home to dinner — and a fight.

In this body I could be yours!

You love these miserable men!

Though —I’ll always be the perfect woman

Who you’ll kiss once

then never again.
