Morose Days Are Here To Stay — Zoee LeBlanc

Tears slip from my eyes,
A winter faucet no one bothers to tighten.
Old scars wake beneath my skin,
Ants mapping out forgotten wounds.
My mind pounds—
A jackhammer on New York concrete—
Relentless, metallic, merciless.
The television drones
A buzzing and incessant noise
And the bed beneath me
Creaks like the tired bones
Of someone who’s lived too long.
My heart sprints from demons
I can’t name.
My lungs call out for air
But answer only themselves.
Then suddenly—
Relief.
Sharp and fleeting,
Like the moment you see
A passing grade and realize
You’ve survived another day.
The high dissolves.
I convulse, twitch,
Electricified, undone—
A live wire’s aftershock.
I bargain with myself,
Promise restraint,
Even while the hunger stirs again.
Sleep finally settles over me,
And the day rewinds,
Spooling back like a cassette
That refuses to play
Anything resembling a sweet dream.
Morbidly ADHD and chronically talkative, Zoee LeBlanc happily spends her days pining after 6 feet tall fictional men that promise to ravish her and drinking copious amounts of British tea. She's passionate about reading and sharing her love of literature and all things relating to the British monarchy. She finds that writing has enabled her to show the world her truest inner self and lay bare her ravenous soul that she has buried for years.
