Electrified - Jayme Carlson

You and I sit in a soft

storm. It simmers with gentle

ferocity, the lightning hums

a lullaby. Deep violet and evergreen burn

across the sky, our favorite shades.

No butterflies slam against

my ribs, my heart does not

shred itself into pieces

I’ll have to knot back together.

You devour my iron armor, infinity

begins to end and I feel

safe. Electrified.

When the ugly morning yanks me awake

I wonder if somewhere you dreamt the same.
