Dissociated Youth — Austin Jenniches

I'm watching my hand out the window

Tracing the scorched sideburns of an unkempt freeway,

Flicking the Bic with a cigarette screwed between

Chapped lips- curses spit in the name of

Arsonists.

Seduced- No. Sublimated

With a wash of primal distance:

Far-away ethics, unloved,

Fallen off the tit.

Dissociated youth.

Like me, but,

I have an ashtray in my car.

Austin (He/Him) is an artist from San Diego, California. He works at the North Coast Repertory Theatre as the Box Office Manager and recently finished a poetry book, Tales From the Borderline. He focuses on content that reflects the struggles of mental illness and the subsequent chaos that misunderstanding such problems can cause. At home, Austin spends most of his time writing, making music, and watching sordid documentaries.
